Island Falls man dies when car hits truck

MARS HILL - A man died Thursday night when the car he was driving slammed into the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer on Route 1A, according to Maine State Police.

James Flye Jr., 20, of Island Falls was killed when his 1987 Oldsmobile hit a tractor-trailer that was stuck in the snow at about 9:40 p.m., police said.

The 1995 Freightliner, driven by Douglas Steeves, 36, of Guilford had been traveling north on Route 1A when Steeves decided to reverse direction, according to police. While turning around in a driveway, the tractor-trailer became stuck in the snow. The trailer portion was blocking the road at the time.

Police said Flye was driving south on Route 1A and apparently did not see the tractor. After striking the larger vehicle, Flye's car landed in the ditch on the east side of the road, according to police. Flye was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The Perfect Place
By James Flye Jr.

When the time comes that I'm to die
Promise me that you won't cry
When I'm laying in my casket
Laugh and cheer
Because this world is just a test
Eternity is the rest.
Promise me
That I will see you there
Obey God's commands
And live with open hands
I'm telling you that I can (will, could?) see you there
If you want to go to Heaven
Then Heaven's in your reach
Just live the life
That Jesus lived and preached
'Cause this world is just a test
Eternity is the rest
And promise me
That I will see you there
In Heaven ...
The perfect place.

James didn't name this poem but it has become known The Perfect Place
