MARS
HILL - A man died Thursday night when the car he was driving slammed
into the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer on Route 1A, according
to Maine State Police.
James
Flye Jr., 20, of Island Falls was killed when his 1987 Oldsmobile
hit a tractor-trailer that was stuck in the snow at about 9:40 p.m.,
police said.
The
1995 Freightliner, driven by Douglas Steeves, 36, of Guilford had
been traveling north on Route 1A when Steeves decided to reverse
direction, according to police. While turning around in a driveway,
the tractor-trailer became stuck in the snow. The trailer portion was
blocking the road at the time.
Police
said Flye was driving south on Route 1A and apparently did not see
the tractor. After striking the larger vehicle, Flye's car landed in
the ditch on the east side of the road, according to police. Flye was
wearing a seat belt, police said. |
